Laurencin, Marie (1883-1956)
Portrait de Jeune Femme.

Paris: Mourlot Freres, 1946.

Chromolithograph print after the original drawing; printed in colors on wove paper, signed in the print; matted and framed, reverse mat burn; 12 3/4 x 9 3/4 in.

As part of the group of avant-garde Parisian artists from the early 20th century, Laurencin was acquainted with Picasso, and the Cubists, and exhibited her work alongside theirs at the Salon des Indépendants in 1910-1911. She was romantically involved with men and women and often depicted women in her work. Alex Pilcher, in his A Queer Little History of Art, describes her style as, "queer femme with a Gallic twist."
