LAUTRÉAMONT, COMTE DE [pseud. of ISIDORE DUCASSE]. Les Chants de Maldoror. Half-title. 18mo, contemporary 1/4 morocco, original front wrapper bound in; cloth folding case. Paris & Brussels, 1874

  • Notes: first complete edition, second issue, of Ducasse's bizarre proto-surrealist classic. After the separate publication of the first part in 1868 the full work was printed the following year, but the publisher refused to distribute it and provided Ducasse with only a small number of copies for personal use. Another publisher subsequently acquired the sheets and issued the book in 1874 with the cover, half-title, and title reset. Accompanied by a copy of the complete works of Ducasse in the fifth edition edited with notes by Philippe Soupault. 12mo, original wrappers, spine chipped and cracked, front wrapper loose. Paris, 1927.
