  • Notes: The medieval town law of Magdeburg, or Sächsisches Weichbild, became the most widely-followed model for German municipalities in Central and Eastern Europe. This edition comprises the Magdeburg law, the portion on feudal law from the Sachsenspiegel, the most influential Saxon legal work of the Middle Ages, and a topical index to both. With the bookplate of the legal scholar Guido Kisch (1889-1986), who specialized in the history of German law, particularly as it applied to Jews in medieval society.
