One of the most versatile creative minds of the 20th century, Le Corbusier (born Charles-Édouard Jeanneret) found success as an architect, fine artist, writer, interior designer, photographer and city planner. It is likely the ubiquitous respect for his artistry that led fellow architectural prodigy Jørn Utzon to commission a tapestry design from Corbusier for his most famous building project - the Sydney Opera House. The tapestry, entitled Les Dés Sont Jetés (The Dice Are Cast), features large blocks of stark color permeated by shape and line work typical of his Purist style. A print made from the design is featured on this poster advertising an exhibition of a selection of Le Corbusier's tapestries at Galerie La Demeure in Paris in 1960. After the show, Les Dés Sont Jetés was given to Utzon for safekeeping until the Sydney Opera House was completed. Due to creative differences between the architect and the Australian state government, Utzon left the building project in 1966 prior to its completion, and the tapestry remained with his family until it was acquired by the Sydney Opera House in 2015 and finally placed in its originally intended home.
