Leon Dupin Union Sportive Du Metropolitain 1931 39.25 x 24.25 inches Joseph Charles, Paris. Condition B+: vertical and horizontal folds: minor restoration in image; unobtrusive water stain in bottom margin, not affecting image. Leon Dupin is one of the many graphic designers who worked in Paris between the wars. We do not know very much about him, except that he produced posters in a warm, lighthearted, geometrical style. Here, obviously taking a lesson from the masters of the era, Cassandre and Loupot, Dupin does a good job of advertising a sporting event in a streamlined, Art Deco style. He invents a stylized red character, his sweater bearing the blue "M" ofthe union, with a megaphone in one hand, a placard in the other. Overlapping the image diagonally is a geometrically-rendered subway train. With the text nicely arranged along the top and using only three colors, Dupin delivers all the necessary information in a unique fashion. ref.
