LEONARD EDMONDSON

Sphere of Hostility.

Color etching and aquatint, 1953. 375x277 mm; 14 3/4x11 inches, full margins. Signed, titled, dated and numbered 3 7/50 in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression with strong colors.

A California native, Edmondson served in the US Army in Military Intelligence during World War II. Around this time, he became engrossed in the work of Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. From the late 1940s through the mid-1980s he taught at the Pasadena City College, the University of California at Berkeley, Pratt Institute and the California State University in Los Angeles among several other institutions. In 1951 he made his first etching and mounted his first solo exhibition at the Felix Landau Gallery in Los Angeles.
