New York City artist and illustrator Leonard Jenkins received his BFA from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. He has illustrated numerous recent children's books, many on African-American subjects, including Langston's Train Ride by Robert Burleigh, Sweet Land of Liberty by Deborah Hopkinson, Sunflower Island by Carol Greene, I've Seen the Promised Land: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X, A Fire Burning Brightly by Walter Dean Myers. He teaches painting at the School of Visual Arts, New York.
