Pen and brown ink and wash on cream laid paper. 42x40 mm; 1 3/4x1 5/8 inches. Ex-collection unknown collectors, oval with a cardinal's hat ink stamp verso (not in Lugt); oval with a crown and coat-of-arms ink stamp verso (not in Lugt); and Bodtz-Möller, ink stamp upper left recto (not in Lugt).
The model for the current work appears to be a Da Vinci self-portrait, such as that in red chalk from the Biblioteca Reale, Turin, dating from 1512.
