"Hustlers Convention came before Bronx block parties and boxfresh Adidas were the height of cool, before Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, and even Fab 5 Freddy himself."- VICE.

Jalal Mansur Nuriddin, born Lawrence Padilla and dubbed the "Grandfather of Rap", was a poet and musician who grew up in Fort Green, Brooklyn. Nuriddin was one of the first members of The Last Poets, a collective founded in the late sixties who spoke out, "as few other musical groups had, or have since, about racism, poverty and other African American and societal concerns." This is the book form of his landmark concept album of the same name, widely acknowledged as a seminal work in the development of hip hop.
