LINCOLN, ABRAHAM. Autograph Document, unsigned, a 40-line affadavit in a lawsuit brought by Alexander Page against John W. Boyd and William Boyd concerning the death of a horse. 1 1/4 page, small folio, written on the recto and verso of a single sheet; uneven scattered toning, short closed separations at folds, some scattered ink oxidation, docketing and signatures by clerk and defendant on verso. [Petersburg], 5 May 1847

  • Notes: ". . . the mare in question in this suit died at the house of said witness . . . that defendants gave all possible care to said mare to prevent her death . . . and that there were no signs of abuse or want of care . . . ."

Typed Letter Signed, as Circuit Clerk and Recorder of Menard County, attesting to the authenticity of the present document based upon his "having seen and studied such writing of the said Lincoln" and that Lincoln's "name is found entered as attorney of record in many cases" in the Docket Book. Petersburg, 17 April 1915.
