(LINCOLN, ABRAHAM.) Lincoln Battalion. Partially Printed Letter Signed to W.E. Clark.
(LINCOLN, ABRAHAM.) Lincoln Battalion. Partially Printed Letter Signed to W.E. Clark. Signed by S.J. Foster as commandant, and J.H. Baily as orderly. 12mo, 1 page; integral address sheet has minor soiling and tear at seal. Brooklyn, 25 June 1860
- Notes: An interesting bit of Lincoln campaign memorabilia. The Lincoln Battalion was a private militia unit working to generate votes for Lincoln in Brooklyn. This notice invites Clark to "a Meeting of this Battalion for Exercise and Drill," adding that the following night the battalion will convene to "receive the Rail Splitters from NY." The Eighteenth Ward Rail Splitters were a similar unit from Manhattan. See the New York Times, 12 June, 30 July, 4 September, and 23 October 1860.
