LINCOLN, ABRAHAM. Two Autograph Documents, unsigned, each an affadavit. The first, 40-lines for a lawsuit brought by Alexander Page against John W. Boyd and William Boyd concerning the death of a horse. 1 1/4 page, small folio, written on the recto and verso of a single sheet; uneven scattered toning, short closed separations at folds, some scattered ink oxidation, docketing and signatures by clerk and defendant on verso. The second, 12-lines for a lawsuit brought by Reuben Walker against James W. Estill concerning a debt. 1 page, square 8vo; bottom torn away erratically (not affecting text), some uneven toning, folds, docketing on verso. [Petersburg], 5 May 1847; 5 June 1843

  • Notes: 5 May: "[T]he mare in question in this suit died at the house of said witness . . . that defendants gave all possible care to said mare to prevent her death . . . and that there were no signs of abuse or want of care . . . ."
    5 June: ". . . Asa Cleaveland the surety in the appeal bond in said suit is insufficient as such sureity, as . . . Cleaveland is indebted to an amount greater than the value of all his property."
