LISZT, FRANZ. Autograph Letter Signed, "F. Liszt," to an unnamed friend of Mrs. Schumann, in German,

SEEKING TICKETS TO PREMIERE OF SCHUMANN'S ONLY OPERA, "GENOVEVA" LISZT, FRANZ. Autograph Letter Signed, "F. Liszt," to an unnamed friend of Mrs. Schumann, in German, requesting that he obtain either from the ticket office or Mrs. Schumann three tickets to the premiere of Schumann's, Genoveva, stipulating that two of the tickets be for box seats to accommodate the Princess [Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein?], inviting him to join the group and, in a postscript, remarking that the third ticket would be given to [Liszt's assistant Joachim] Raff. 3 pages, 8vo, written on folded sheet; faint marginal discoloration from prior matting to pages 2-3, horizontal folds. Weimar, 22 June 1850

"Upon my return from my little trip to Coburg, I had the pleasant news that Schumann's opera will not be premiered in Leipzig before Tuesday. Be so kind as to express my thanks to Mrs. Schumann for the announcements and also ask her to reserve 3 tickets for me. . . . In any case, I expressly do not wish any tickets free of charge--and since the Princess will probably arrive on the same day in Leipzig, I must ask you to have 2 of the 3 tickets assigned to boxes.
"Even better, if possible just arrange for a decent box on the first balcony and grant us the pleasure of your company during the performance of Genoveva : this last arrangement would be the most convenient. . . ."
