- Notes: Lockman (1870-1957) prominent American portrait painter and former President of the National Academy of Design, studied with James N. Beard, Nelson Bickford and William Sartain, exhibited at The National Academy of Design as early as 1887. He won many awards, including the Silver Medal at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915, the Lippincott Prize in 1918, the Maynard Prize in 1922, and Gold Medals from the New York Historical Society in 1933 and Allied Artists of America in 1936. Today his works are held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Academy of Design, New York Historical Society, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, West Point, Yale University and others.
