LOMBARD SCHOOL, EARLY 17TH-CENTURY

The Deposition.

Pen and dark brown ink with white gouache heightening over red chalk on cream laid paper with a prepared gray wash ground mounted on cream laid paper. 111x94 mm; 4 3/8x3 3/4 inches.

The handling and technique of the current work can be compared to a drawing by Daniele Crespi (Busto Arsizio circa 1590-1630 Milan) with Prouté, Paris, in 1994, catalogue number 7. The figure of Christ in the current work also resembles Crespi's Pietà in the Prado, Madrid.
