LOUIS LOZOWICK Mural Study: Lower Manhattan.

LOUIS LOZOWICK
Mural Study: Lower Manhattan.

Lithograph, 1936. 338x183 mm; 13 1/4x7 1/4 inches, full margins. Edition of approximately only 10. Signed and dated in pencil, lower right. A very good impression of this extremely scarce print.

In 1936 Lozowick accepted a commission from the Treasury Relief Art Project for two large oil paintings to adorn the walls of the Midtown Post Office, at 33rd Street and 8th Avenue, in Manhattan, where they can still be seen. His preliminary studies for the paintings were two lithographs: Mural Study: Lower Manhattan and Mural Study: Tri-Borough Bridge (see the following lot). These lithographs are among his strongest images of New York. Flint 135.
