LOUIS-THEOFILE HINGRE PNEU VELO MICHELIN. Circa 1900.

37x23 3/4 inches. La Lithographie Parisienne, [Paris].
Condition B+: repaired tears and restoration in margins affecting image.
A young woman in yellow and red is riding behind Bibendum as he outdistances a pierrot on the country road in the background. Not only are his Michelin tires outlasting his adversary's weaker rubber, but Bibendum is actually riding through a field of glass bell jars, his tires clearly impervious to shards of broken glass. A rare and unusual Michelin poster by Hingre, who is primarily known for his archly Mucha-esque Art Nouveau posters.
