LUCIAN BERNHARD (1883-1972) LODOR.
27 3/8x17 1/2 inches. Hollerbaum & Schmidt, Berlin.
Condition A. Framed.
Although Lucian Bernhard became famous for his creation of the Sachsplakat (Object Poster), he did not systematically employ that style. One of the alternative design methods he used earlier in his career was to compose a still life showing the goods that were being offered for sale en situ. Here he depicts a container of metal polish and a rag on a table. As with all his posters, the colors are flat and the outlining is broad. The typography is basically in an old German Gothic style, but in a flashy blue color to catch the eye of the public.
