LUCIEN BOUCHER (1889-1971)

AIR FRANCE / ORIENT - EXTRÊME - ORIENT. 1946.

39x24¼ inches, 99x61½ cm. Perceval, Paris.
Condition B+: creases and abrasions in margins and image; varnished. Paper.

Air France was formed in 1933 after a merger between Air Orient and a number of other French airlines. Adopting the winged seahorse logo that had belonged to Air Orient, Air France absorbed the former airline's routes through Asia. Boucher designed two posters promoting the Airline's routes to and through the Orient. They are unique in the series of Air France posters as, like a Chinese enameled box, they are each lacquered -- further adding to their graphic exoticism.

Air France p. 23, Huhne p. 257.
