LUDWIG HOHLWEIN (1874-1949) A.D.A.C. 1927. 48x34 inches. Oscar Consee, Munich.
LUDWIG HOHLWEIN (1874-1949) A.D.A.C. 1927.
48 3/8x34 1/8 inches. Oscar Consee, Munich.
Condition B+: creases in margins and image; soiling in top image; sharp horizontal fold.
Advertising a race for motorcycles and cars sponsored by the German General Automotive Club (A.D.A.C.), Hohlwein presents a dandy sportsman receiving his trophy at the finish line. This poster is typical of his 1920s style, when he used diluted pigment or watercolor to render descriptive, mannerist illustrations. Gone were the revolutionary designs with broad, flat planes of color and innovative graphic creations. Here he most likely gave an illustration to the printer who proceeded to add all of the necessary advertising information and logos using standard typography. Stuttgart, 275 (var.)
