  • Notes: Inscribed and signed: "Contact, Stop, Whuump! Wow! Man, look at that! Old Orion is finally here, Houston. Fantastic! Charles M. Duke, Jr., Apollo 16 LMP." These were the first words after landing transmitted by Duke. He has also written "April 20-23, 1972," the dates of the lunar stay, and marked a "X" at the landing site.
