Folio, 17th-century school prize binding of brown calf lavishly gilt-tooled to all-over pattern of fleurs-de-lis surrounding the arms of the Collège des Grassins on covers (Olivier 1973), spine in 7 compartments, lettered in one with fleurs-de-lis in the rest, slight chip at bottom of spine, cover corners rubbed; scattered minor stains and pencil marginalia, short clean tears in 2A3.4, large prize certificate or bookplate removed from front pastedown.   • Notes: Early 5th century A.D. treatise on Neoplatonic philosophy in the form of a commentary on Cicero's Somnium Scipionis, with extensive incidental remarks on cosmology and the sciences; in a handsome and well-preserved prize binding from the Collège des Grassins, a Paris school founded in 1569, with an award inscription dated 1680 from Delangler, royal professor of eloquence, to Laurent de Vernesson for excellence in Greek oratory.
