Notes: Purchased from Harry Lunn Gallery in 1972.
The artist Meret Oppenheim (1913-1985) burst onto the surrealist scene with her "Le Dejeuner en Fourrure," the fur-covered teacup, saucer, and spoon she made in 1936. Man Ray''s photographic studies of Oppenheim were popular images during the 1930s. They represented both the artist''s aesthetic exploration of the female nude as well as Oppenheim''s belief in the personal freedom women must demand. Later on, during the feminist era, Oppenheim made the famous statement, "Nobody will give you the freedom, you have to take it." - Condition: All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries'' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues.
