(MANUMISSION.) Office of Claims for Slaves Enlisted in the U.S. Service. Partly-printed Document, filled out by hand; docketed on verso; 1 page, folio; accompanied by a partly-printed document, filled out by hand; 1 page, 4to; U.S. Revenue stamps on both documents; the latter with blindstamp of Board of Claims for Enlisted Slaves; a few closed tears where folded. Witnesses that slave owner Thomas R. Brown of Kent County, Maryland received one hundred dollars for giving his slave, Mark Russell, into enlistment in the Union Army. States: "A valid deed of manumission and release from Service Baltimore, Maryland 1865 E750/1,000 Russell enlisted 16 January 1864; served with 7th Regiment, Company I, USCT.
