MARCEL CHARLES HEMJIC (1894-?) PKZ. 1929.

50 1/2x35 1/2 inches. Wolfsberg, Zurich.
Condition A: minor restoration in margins.
Hemjic was a French illustrator who worked for satiric newspapers and fashion magazines in Paris. He also created advertising for Paris' major department stores (Printemps and La Grande Maison) and luxury brands like Hermes. His experience with the fashion world explains why he was chosen by PKZ to design a poster, even though at that time they were almost exclusively hiring Swiss artists. This poster, for the fall of 1929 shows a man walking into the wind, surrounded by blowing leaves. The absence of any dark outlining, and the intermingling of patterns and flat colors gives the image a kind of poetical, shadowy appearance.
