MARIN-DARBEL, V. Group of 6 graphite and white chalk drawings by a French naval officer,
MARIN-DARBEL, V. Group of 6 graphite and white chalk drawings by a French naval officer, including views of Sydney on Cape Breton Island (3), Narragansett, Rhode Island and Point-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe (2). Each approximately 9 3/4x12 1/2 inches, on gray wove paper. Vp, 1860s
Each view is titled, signed and dated by the officer in pencil, and each is additionally signed by another (named Godefroy?) in ink. Two of the Cape Breton views form a panorama of Sydney and the other depicts a Micmac encampment with three teepees. The Narragansett view principally shows the entrance to the harbor. Finally, the Pointe-a-Pitre drawings show both the town and bay.
All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues and are posted below.
