Mary Abbott studied art with George Grosz at The Art Students League, then Eugene Weis at The Corcoran Museum School. She moved into a loft space in Manhattan and participated in The Subject of the Art, a loose affiliation of artists that included William Baziotes, Robert Motherwell, Barnett Newman, and Mark Rothko. Mary Abbott passed away in 2019 and was one of the last artists of the Abstract Expressionsits generation.
