  • Notes: Dummer served as Acting Governor of Massachusetts from 1723 to 1728. He is now probably best known for founding the first independent boarding school in America, which until 2006 was still known as the Governor Dummer Academy. In this document, Dummer orders the arrest of a naval officer, Lieut. John Lane, who had been duping sailors out of their salary.
