  • Notes: number 149 of 920 copies on vélin pur fil from a total edition of 950. The last fourteen years of Matisse''s life were among his most productive. Having recovered from major cancer surgery, this "second life," as he called it, allowed him to explore his draughtsmanship skills. The "themes" are generally charcoal studies of women, flowers, and still-lives that are reworked into fluid, spontaneous "variations" in pen or conte crayon. A scarce and important work. Duthuit 9; Monod 7847.
