- Notes: James Matthews (circa 1820-1880) was an illusionist and mentalist who regularly performed at John Henry Pepper's (1821-1900) Royal Polytechnic Institute. At this performance in Bridgnorth, Matthews would present an illusion originally introduced by Pepper, the "Marvelous Ghost."
