MAURICE LAURO (1878- ?) TROUVILLE. 1927.
41 1/2x29 1/2 inches. Devambez, Paris.
Condition A-: minor creases and discoloration in margin.
An engaging Art Deco rendition of a bustling, fashionable day on Trouville's boardwalk, filled with style, beauty, glamour, color, and patterns to the point that it "seems to encapsulate the essence of bright young thingery." (Hillier, p. 148) Executed in the manner of the fashionable Art Deco magazines of the era (such as Vogue), this graceful, joyful and elegant celebration of the happy-go-lucky roaring twenties reflects Lauro's work as a magazine illustrator. The poster exists in different formats with varrying texts. In 1927, Lauro, who was a prolific illustrator, was commissioned to promote Trouville, the sister resort of Deauville (mostly advertised with posters designed by Don, with whom Trouville always competed). Hillier p. 148 (var).
