Profusion of plates, chiefly after photographs by Frank Hurley and others, including 18 in color and 2 sepia frontispieces; 3 folding maps in Volume 2 rear cover pocket. 2 volumes. 4to, original gilt-lettered dark blue cloth with silver-stamped vignette on front covers, bindings slightly shaken, spine ends bumped, spine lettering dulled, cover corners rubbed. Tipped to the Volume 1 front free endpaper is a handbill announcing the January 1915 opening of a London Fine Art Society exhibition of Hurley's photographs of the Mawson Expedition. Laid in is a snapshot of Mawson, his wife, and friends, captioned on verso: "Picnic scene near Adelaide, South Australia, taken by Leonard Huxley--summer 1952." London, (1915)
