MAX ARTHUR COHN Rainy Day.

MAX ARTHUR COHN
Rainy Day.

Color screenprint, 1940. 221x282 mm; 8 3/4x13 1/8 inches, full margins.

Born in London, Cohn (1903-1998) moved to New York with his family as a child. His first job, at the age of 17, involved work in a New York screenprinting workshop. During the late 1930's, he worked in the Easel Project of the WPA. Though he is best remembered for his early screenprints, such as this view of a New York City street scene, later on, in the 1950s, Cohn ran his own commercial art studio where he taught the then young Andy Warhol how to make screenprints.
