Ernst (1891-1976), one of the pioneers of Dada and Surrealism, and a prolific painter, sculptor, and printmaker, worked frequently with glass too. He was a central figure in the Murano glass artist cooperative Fucina degli Angeli (along with Jean Arp, Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Lucio Fontana and Le Corbusier) producing with this glass-making studio the famous giant glass chess set L'immortale.
