(MEDICAL) army medical museum
Group of 7 photographs from a series made for the Philadelphia International Exposition depicting both models and photographs from life of Army medical facilities and equipment, comprising views of hospital tents, a hospital ward, models of barracks and train cars, and an exhibition of hospital models. Albumen prints, 8 1/2x10 1/4 inches (21.6x26 cm.), with caption labels affixed to mount recto. 1876
- Notes: The Army Medical Museum was founded during the Civil War to act as a research facility, since many doctors were unfamiliar with gunshot wounds, the causes of infections, and even blood typing. This group was made to illustrate state-of-the-art hospital and equipment designs. While these photographs are uncredited, they may be by William Bell, who was associated with the Museum.
