Memoir of Mrs. Chloe Spear, a Native of Africa... By a Lady of Boston.
Frontispiece showing young Chloe and her playmates taken by slavetraders in Africa. 12mo, publisher's 1/4 cloth, title label on cover, front cover partly abraded, some staining; partially dampstained through the first half of the volume. Boston, 1832
- Notes: first edition. While intended to be both an anti-slavery and morally instructive book aimed at children, this is still an authentic narrative. The pseudonymous author is, according to a note on the OCLC citation, "Attributed to Mary Webb who died May 24, 1861, at Boston in the 93rd year of her age, by the New York Public Library" [this from the Schomburg copy]. Blockson 9690; Sabin 89073.
