  • Notes: first mexican edition. This controversial work by an exiled Chilean Jesuit predicted the imminent arrival of the Messiah. Lacunza died in 1801, and his Venida del Mesias was first published posthumously in Spain circa 1812 using the pseudonym Juan Josafat Ben-Ezra, with the hope that his work would be accepted by a wider audience if thought to be written by a converted Jew. Although the book was soon banned by the Catholic Church, it went through numerous later editions. It is now regarded as an early influence on the Millerite movement and today''s Seventh-Day Adventists. Medina Puebla 1884; Palau 129492.
