(MEXICAN MANUSCRIPTS.) Espinosa de los Monteros, Manuel. Prompta idea de las doctrinas lacunzianas, dispuesta por un Kiliasta: Diálogo entre Bibliófilo, Hebér y Edón. [48] manuscript pages. Folio, 12 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches, stitched; minimal wear and light foxing to title page. Acolman, Mexico State, 29 November 1826

  • Notes: Manuel de Lacunza (1731-1801) was a former Jesuit priest from Chile who styled himself ''Juan Josafat Ben-Ezra, a converted Jew." In exile in Italy, his millenarian writings were banned by the Spanish Inquisition, but grew in popularity after his death. The present essay on the doctrines of the Lacunzianas is signed only "un Kiliasta"--a chiliast or millenarian who supported radical religious change. Framed as a dialogue between three characters, it discusses the ''Pueblo Hebreo'' (Hebrew people), the prophecies of the antichrist, and the end of days. Chapter titles include: ''En que se establece la superioridad de la nación hebrea sobre todas las del mundo'' (in which the superiority of the Hebrew nation over all the world is established), ''Explicase lo que es y será el Anticristo'' (It is explained what the Antichrist is and what will be), and ''Bajará de el cielo la Jerusalen Celestial al monte sion'' (Celestial Jerusalem will descend from heaven to Mount Zion). The first 3 pages are dedicated to a prospective publisher, but it apparently never found its way to a press.
