(MEXICO--CHIHUAHUA.) Revista Oficial / La Restauracion: Periodico del Gobierno del Departmento de Chihuahua. 118 weekly issues (most 4 pages each) plus 23 extras and 4 proclamations bound in chronologically in 2 volumes, with manuscript tables of contents bound in at the beginning of each volume. Folio, 12 x 8 1/2 inches, contemporary green calf with manuscript cover labels, moderate wear; minor dampstaining and wear including a few chips and repaired tears. Chihuahua: Cayetano Ramos, October 1843 to December 1845

  • Notes: The official weekly journal of the northern state of Chihuahua, on the strategic Texas border in the years immediately preceding the Mexican-American War, including decrees, circulars and information issued by the national and state governments. The annexation of Texas, rapidly increasing border defenses, and Indian incursions from the north are frequent topics. The journal changed its name to La Restauracion in July 1845, coinciding with a change in governors.
These volumes also include 4 broadside proclamations from the state of Chihuahua, which were also printed by Cayetano Ramos, who served as the official state printer. Among them are a pair of proclamations by Governor José Mariano Monterde regarding the return of Santa Anna to power, 21 January 1844. More important is a 26 November 1844 Monterde broadside accusing the Texans of orchestrating Indian incursions to towns in the borderlands, and claiming that Mexican forces have killed two Texan "aventureros" in the Ramada, implicating a conspiracy by General Mariano Paredes. Finally is a two-page proclamation by Joaquin Bustamante dated 20 June 1845.
OCLC lists only 2 runs of this periodical: a partial run of 1843 only at Yale, and a few early 1845 issues at the University of Texas. None of the 4 proclamations have been traced in OCLC.
