(MEXICO--NAYARIT.) Complaint from the province of Nayarit against Fr. Manuel Corea.
(MEXICO--NAYARIT.) Complaint from the province of Nayarit against Fr. Manuel Corea. 16 pages, 12.5 x 8.5 inches; partly stitched, minor marginal chipping, two small worm holes, trimmed on outside edge with tight margins. Guadalajara and elsewhere, 1682
- Notes: The elected officials of three towns in Nayarit express their concerns to the Bishop of Guadalajara concerning a priest who was assigned to be their spiritual leader. A one-page petition in Nahuatl (the Aztec language) is followed by 14 densely written pages of Spanish testimony from numerous Indians concerning the priest. The people of Sentispac, San Blas, and other villages complained that Fr. Corea was violent, disappeared for long periods, failed to deliver proper sacraments to the dying, and harangued the natives for giving insufficient alms.
