(MEXICO.) Bound collection of broadsides and pamphlets issued by the federal government and Puebla. Approximately 150 printed items and 6 manuscript items in one volume. Folio, 13 1/2 x 9 inches, in later cloth-backed boards, minor wear; many items folded, generally minor edge wear. Puebla and vp, 1856-58

  • Notes: These decrees, circulars and broadsides document an interesting period of the history of Mexico, with struggles between the State and Church. Under President Ignacio Comonfort, the new 1857 constitution restricted the power of the Mexican Church. On 17 December 1857, some conservative generals promulgated the Plan de Tacubaya in opposition to the new constitution, sparking the sparking the three-year Reform War between liberals and conservatives. This volume includes a broadside printing of the Plan de Tacubaya signed in type by "Felix Zuluaga" (the general''s name is usually spelled Felíx Zuloaga) as well as other decrees reinstating the special powers accorded to the Church.
