  • Notes: A Mexican named José Garay had been granted a privilege to build a canal across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, and later transferred his privilege to a United States firm. This pamphlet offers the official Mexican justification for terminating the project. It includes an English translation, as well as the original Spanish text. Sabin 26548. with--Statement of the Rights and Just Reasons on the Part of the Government of the United Mexican States . . . (Mexico: O''Sullivan & Nolan, 1852), an earlier translation criticized for its inaccuracy in the Stewart edition. Sabin 90757 (a New York edition of this translation).
