(MILITARY--WORLD WAR I.) Fighting in France for Freedom--Are YOU Helping at Home?

(MILITARY--WORLD WAR I.) Fighting in France for Freedom--Are YOU Helping at Home? Black and white poster, 16x19 inches, a few creases where folded; one tiny closed tear in the lower margin. Augusta, ME: Committee on Public Safety, circa 1918

  • Notes: An unusual poster, considering the location of its issue. For Maine, "Down East" to put out a poster featuring African-American doughboys is rather odd considering the fact that there were probably not more than 100 black citizens in the state in 1918. A box in the center says "Full Speed Ahead. . .Throw your Full Force into America's War Machine."
  • Condition: All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues.
