  • Notes: Operation Crossroads staged the first two atomic bomb tests after World War Two. Two bombs were dropped at Bikini Atoll: on 1 July 1946 (the Able test, detonated in the air) and 22 July 1946 (the Baker test, detonated underwater). The main purpose was to test the effects of atomic bomb blasts on naval vessels. 

    This plan provides detailed instructions for photographing the tests, with maps of the areas to be photographed, photographs of equipment to be used, etc. The tests were conducted by a joint Army-Navy task force, with participation from Manhattan Project staff.
