The first National Automobile Show was held at New York's Grand Central Palace in 1900. The Hotel Astor was built in 1906, and this elegant New York hostelry was home to automobile salons from 1910 onwards. By the late 1920s, the Astor was used solely by General Motors as their venue to highlight vehicles and products in their upcoming season. We can date this poster from a New York Times article on January 8th, 1929, describing the show that opened the day before publication. This exceptional, elegant and previously unrecorded/span poster is an archetypal American Art Deco design, incorporating color, image and typography into a compelling promotion. rare/span
