Folio, 393x245 mm, contemporary Dutch mottled calf gilt-tooled to panel design with arabesque centerpiece and crowns and ornamental tools in corners, front joint cracked, cords intact; plates 26 and 29 trimmed and mounted. [Amsterdam?], 1720 E2500-3500 FIRST EDITION; second state of the title. " . . . an exceedingly curious collection of emblematical plates and caricatureson the scheme of J. Law and the Mississippi Company and the imitations of it in Holland, with their fatal results" (Sabin). The regular compliment of illustrations comprises 74 plates. This copy hasa duplicate of plate 3, but lacks plate 65 (the sheet of playing cards, which has been replaced by an extraneous satiric engraving; it also contains the first 4 plates from the supplementary series found in some copies (engraved plate list and portraits of John Law, his wife,and James III, pretender to the English crown).
