MODERNE GRAPHIK. Serie II. Portfolio with 48 plates. 1912.
Each plate 14x10 1/4 inches. Friedr. Wolfrum & Co., Leipzig.
Condition varies, generally B+.
This portfolio represents the high level that graphic arts had achieved in Austria before the First World War. It consists of a selection of advertisements designed by the Viennese studios of C. and Karl Hofman and Otto Morgeneyer. While not members of the Secession Movement, these designers were clearly skilled artists who had mastered the spirit of the Jugendstil. Their finely printed cards and labels for perfume, wine, chocolate, carpets, cigarettes, hotels and restaurants are among the best examples of the application of the Jugendstil to everyday life.
