Modotti created an extensive series of photographs involving hands and marionettes made by Louis Bunin, a young artist from Chicago who had come to Mexico to study with Diego Rivera. Bunin was entranced with the puppet show as a means by which to convey socio-political messages, and staged many such shows during the tumultuous period he lived in Mexico. -
