Autograph Letter Signed, to an unnamed recipient, written just prior to being recalled by Washington for failing to support Jay's Treaty, concerning Monroe's assistance to a family which had emigrated from Antwerp to America and returning papers to him. 1 page, single 4to sheet; horizontal fold, partially inlaid. - Notes: "I send you according to yr. request all the papers left in my hands concerning the affrs of the family wch emigrated from Antwerp to America, & in whose behalf it was yr wish I shd attempt some thing here. I return you all the papers because being possessed of others of the like import from the department of state, they are not necessary to assist me in any measures I may find occasion to take in behalf of that family... I beg you to assure that family that I will render it all the service in my power..."
