MOORE, MARIANNE. Group of 6 letters and a post card to poet Howard Griffin.

MOORE, MARIANNE. Group of 6 letters and a post card to poet Howard Griffin. 4 TLsS, 2 ALsS, and one Autograph post card. Mostly single 8vo sheets, with fold marks, scattered light soiling, and some scribbled notes on verso or margins; on 260 Cumberland Street stationery. Brooklyn, 1951-56

  • Notes: an excellent view into the working correspondence of two american poets. Moore offers encouragement: "Mr. Covici of Viking would like to see your dialogues which I tell him would be an inestimable convenience and favor to me if he would publish . . . one gets impetuous urgencies; if I merely trammel you, pay no attention . . ." In another, she makes detailed comments on a group of poems sent to her: "Epilogue this surely is good, but `gnomes'' of art? Gnomes is a little obscure?" . . . "I know why punctuation seems objectionable; at the same time, one does not want to distract the reader with what damages the thought."
